How much carbon? PDF E-mail

There are over 30,000 schools and further education colleges in the UK, making it the largest estate in the public sector.

The Carbon Trust estimates that the cost of energy used within all UK schools is around £350M per annum and rising despite reduction targets set at the Local Authority level.

Schools emit over 5 million tonnes of CO2 per year, which is around 15% of total public sector emissions.

It is estimated that savings of 5% across the sector can be achieved at no cost, saving over £20 million and 300,000 tonnes of CO2- equivalent to a herd of over 60,000 elephants!
